Oregon State Hospital (OSH) is pleased to announce that Dr. Amit Bhavan has been selected as the hospital’s new Chief Medical Officer. He has been serving in the role on an interim basis since August 2025.

During this time, Dr. Bhavan helped OSH stay in compliance with national health standards and supported ongoing efforts to provide high‑quality psychiatric care in a safe and compassionate environment. Leaders across OSH and the Oregon Health Authority praised his steady, mission‑driven approach.

Dr. Bhavan first joined OSH in 2020 as a unit psychiatrist and became a supervising psychiatrist in 2023. His years of working closely with patients and caregivers give him a deep understanding of the hospital community.

Before coming to OSH, he worked at Oregon Health & Science University and the Unity Center for Behavioral Health. He completed his medical training at the University of Medicine & Health Sciences in St. Kitts & Nevis and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

OSH looks forward to Dr. Bhavan’s continued leadership.
