Our partners at Oregon Department of Human Services share that the Oregon Summer EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) program is back!
The Summer EBT program gives families money to help buy groceries when school is out. Healthy eating throughout the summer helps students stay strong and prepared for the next school year. Each eligible student can get $120 for food over the summer.
Automatically eligible children will receive their benefit on June 5. Some families may be eligible but need to apply. Online applications open June 5.
Who is eligible for Summer EBT?
Automatically eligible – don’t need to apply:
- Children in households receiving benefits such as SNAP, TANF, or the Oregon Health Plan.
- Children who attend a Head Start program that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP).
- Children who are in resource (foster) care, part of a migrant education program, experiencing houselessness, or are part of the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.
Need to apply:
- Families who have a child that attends a school that participates in the NSLP or SBP AND meet the income requirements for free or reduced-price meals at school.
What else should you know?
- If you’re new to the program, you must apply by Sep. 1, 2026. You can apply online starting June 5 or with a paper application. Go to sebt.oregon.gov for details.
- Families with children who are automatically eligible for Summer EBT will get the benefit starting June 5 on an Oregon EBT card. This card can be used at most grocery stores and farmers markets.
- If you applied for and received Summer EBT after July 1 last year, you don’t need to apply again – your application carries to this year.
- You can protect your Oregon EBT card and benefits from electronic theft by following a few simple tips. Stolen Summer EBT cards can’t be replaced.
